1. Additional Bus Route

Due to an increase in the number of students living in the northwest corner of Winkler, the board approved an additional bus route to transport students to the respective schools.

This new route will go into operation as soon as possible.

2. Enrolment Update

As reported earlier in September, overall student enrolment is up in the division. Because of the increase in student numbers in some schools, additional staffing will be provided to help address the needs.

The Superintendent is currently working with the schools in question to determine next steps.

3. Attendance Ad Hoc Committee

In spring of 2014, an ad hoc committee of the board was formed to review enrolments and examine issues in public, private, and homeschooling options within Garden Valley School Division.

After reviewing various data, the committee brought forward the following three recommendations which were approved by the board:

1. The Board draft a letter to the local MLA regarding the lack of alignment between two pieces of legislation - Learning to Age 18 and the Employment Standards code.

2. The Board's "Community Connections Committee" will focus on GVSD PR Strategies / Communication to ensure the public is aware of the various program options that are available through the school division.

3. Defer further investigation into an "Alternative School Setting" for one year.
