The Winkler Elementary School grades 4 to 6 choir performed at the local festival this spring. They were recommended for consideration at the provincial level. A CD of their singing was sent into a panel of adjudicators and the choir won the provincial award for school choirs age 12 and under.
Some years provincial winners are recommended for consideration at the national level to compete for the Florine Despres Award. The Winkler Elementary School choir received this recommendation and their vocal CD has been sent on for adjudication at the national level. The grades 4 to 6 choir is a non-auditioned choir and practices twice a week at noon hours under the direction of Dorothy Plett and accompanied by Stephen Knott.
This is exciting news for the choir. The parents and school, as well as the school division, are proud of this accomplishment.
