1.   Garden Valley Collegiate Presentation • Principal Scott Jantzen and Vice Principal Carrie Friesen provided a presentation on GVC’s work on belonging and engagement. • By using the 3-block model of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), GVC is working to increase students sense of belonging and engagement.

Trustees were provided a brief overview of the UDL model. • Recent results from the Tell Them From Me Survey indicate that students at GVC value a high sense of belonging and believe they are experiencing positive relationships at school.  

2.   Grade 3 Provincial Assessment Results 2015-2016 • Trustees reviewed the grade 3 assessment results for schools in GVSD for 2015/16. • It was noted that GVSD students are performing above provincial averages in literacy, with approximately 67% of students meeting grade 3 expectations in literacy. The provincial average is 58%. • Since the start of the GVSD early years literacy initiative in 2012-2013 there has been a significant increase in the percentage of students meeting gr. 3 reading expectations. • In numeracy, GVSD students are also performing above the provincial averages, with approximately 62% of students meeting grade 3 expectations in numeracy. The provincial average is 55%. • 41% of the current grade 3 students in GVSD are considered English as an Additional Language (EAL) students.

3.   NPC ASHRAE Award • The American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) recognizes recipients who exemplify the best in engineering and technology. • Northlands Parkway Collegiate received an ASHRAE award for mechanical design at a recognition dinner event on February 8 in Winnipeg.

4.  2016-2017 Budget Consultation Meeting  • The Board has scheduled a Public Budget Consultation/Information meeting starting at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Parkland School in Winkler. • The general public is invited to connect with the School Board in this budget information session.
