1.  Plum Coulee School Presentation • Principal Mary Eberling-Penner provided an overview of the K-4 literacy initiative and shared recent student results. It was noted the number of students reading at or above grade level is increasing annually, with anywhere from 75% - 93% of students reading at or above grade level. • Staff member Claire Goertzen was joined

by students Kaitlyn Cowie and Rebecca Wiebe to provide trustees with a presentation on the student leadership program at the school. • Kaitlyn and Rebecca presented numerous examples of various activities where student leaders have been achieving goals and inspiring others along the way, both within the school and the community, such as: o helping to plan, organize and lead the Remembrance Day Service, o raising funds for disadvantaged children in Nicaragua, and o doing community clean up, along with many more.

2.  GVSD 5-year Capital Plan • Each year all school divisions are required to submit a 5-year capital plan to the Public Schools Finance Branch. • The Board submitted one request on the current 5-year capital plan – a new K-8 school for Winkler West. • A new school eliminates the need for: permanent construction at two schools in Winkler that currently have 23 portables; and additional portable classrooms to meet the provincial initiative to reduce class sizes in K-3.
