1.   Garden Valley Collegiate Presentation
• Principal Scott Jantzen and Vice Principal Carrie Friesen provided an overview of several initiatives currently underway at GVC – improving the transitions for students from
elementary to high school; literacy across the content areas; student engagement, and professional learning communities.
• Some of the highlights included:
     o The collaboration between GVC staff and feeder elementary school staff to help all grade 8 students have a successful transition to high school;
     o Focused professional development that included literacy strategies across the core subject areas; and
     o Collaborative conversations on improving student engagement for all learners.

2.   Grade 3 Provincial Assessment Results 2016-2017
• Trustees reviewed the grade 3 assessment results for schools in GVSD for 2016/17.
• It was noted that GVSD students are performing above provincial averages in literacy, with approximately 64% of students meeting grade 3 expectations in literacy. The provincial average is 58%.
• Since the start of the GVSD early years literacy initiative in 2012-2013 there has been a significant increase in the percentage of students meeting grade 3 reading expectations.
• In numeracy, GVSD students are also performing above the provincial averages, with approximately 58% of students meeting grade 3 expectations in numeracy. The provincial average is 55%.
• 41% of the current grade 3 students in GVSD are considered English as an Additional Language (EAL) students.
3.   2017-2018 Provincial Funding Announcement
• On February 1, 2017, the Minister of Education announced an increase of 1.0% or $13.1M in provincial funding for public Education for the 2017/18 school year.
• Although there will be no new funding from the province for Garden Valley, additional funding will be realized due simply to increased enrolment and projected increased expenditures.  The overall impact is estimated at approximately $275,000 or 1.0%.
• The Board has scheduled a Budget & School Exhibition Event on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Garden Valley Collegiate in Winkler. 
4.  Board Budget Exhibition
• On February 22, 2017 from 7:00-8:30 pm at the GVC Gymnasium, all members of the community are invited to attend a Budget Exhibition that will celebrate educational excellence by displaying the outstanding programs, students and staff supported by the annual division budget.
• As part of the exhibition, the Board will host a separate budget exhibit focused on the GVSD budget.
• There will be performances by the NPC Jazz Ensemble and GVC Jazz, and students from Winkler Elementary School.
• Parents, community members and staff are encouraged to come out to see the great educational activities taking place in the division, engage in conversation with trustees, staff, students and enjoy refreshments provided by the NPC baking program.
