1.  Divisional Strategic Plan 2017-2018
• Trustees approved the following goals as part of the division’s strategic plan for 2017-2018:
 o Literacy
 o Numeracy
 o Professional Learning Communities
• In addition to its continued commitment on early years’ literacy, the strategic plan also addresses literacy in the middle years and high school, along with a continued focus on numeracy from kindergarten to grade 8.

2.  School Division Budget 2017-2018
• GVSD 2017-18 Budget = $50,000,000 
• Approximately 67% comes from provincial revenue, the rest comes from local taxes.
• The mill rate will remain unchanged at 15.99, meaning there will be no increase in education taxes for most home and business owners.
• New expenditures include such things as:
 o Funds to implement the division’s strategic goals of Gr. K-12 literacy and K-8 numeracy.
 o Funds for a bus reserve fund.
 o Renovation at GVCTEC for an additional classroom space.
 o Funds for a formal capital reserve for a new K-8 school in Winkler.
 o Additional Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy services for students.
 o Supporting the Winkler Family Resource Centre and the Imagination Library.

3.  Preliminary Kindergarten Enrolment 2017-2018
• Kindergarten registrations have taken place at schools throughout the division.  Registrations to date are around 304 students, which is a slight increase compared to previous years, with the most notable increases in the Winkler schools.
• Parents can still register their children for Kindergarten by contacting their local school.
