1.  Emerado Centennial School Presentation
• Principal Garth Doerksen, joined by Vice Principal Jacqui Kusnick provided a picture walk of how Emerado has grown over the 11 years since it has opened, and some of the highlights of the 10-year anniversary celebrations.
• They also shared the multi-year playspace enhancement and schoolyard beautification plan that will provide numerous enhancements to the school grounds over the next several years.
• Additionally, they reported the school had established a literacy goal of having 80% of students having reading comprehension at or above grade level. According to assessments completed in May 2017, 87% of students were at or above grade level in reading comprehension. 

2.  Early Years Literacy Results – May 2017
• GVSD goal is for 85% of K-4 students reading at or above grade level.
• Fountas and Pinnell assessment results for May 2017 for Kindergarten to Gr. 4 students indicate that overall, 77% of students are reading at or above grade level.
o Kindergarten = 76%
o Gr. 1 = 75%
o Gr. 2 = 79%
o Gr. 3 = 77%
o Gr. 4 = 76%

3.  Middle Years Assessment Results 2016-2017
• 2016-2017 results indicate that GVSD students are performing above the provincial average in the percentage of students meeting grade level expectations in all areas of Gr. 7 Math, Gr. 7 Student Engagement and Gr. 8 Reading Comprehension and Expository Writing.
•  Grade 7 Math - Above the provincial average in all 5 categories.
o Area of greatest strength = ordering decimals (83%).
o Area of greatest challenge = calculating and explaining mental math problems (58.7%).
• Gr. 7 student engagement - Above the provincial average in all 5 categories.
o Area of greatest strength = participating in lessons (66.9%).
o Area of greatest challenge = engaging in self-assessment (60.3%).
• Gr. 8 English Language Arts - Above the provincial average in all 6 categories.
o Area of greatest strength = students understand key ideas and messages in a variety of texts (74%).
o Area of greatest challenge = responding critically to a variety of texts (57.5%).
• Assessment data is reviewed by schools and teachers in their Professional Learning Communities with the goal to improve student achievement.
 
4.  Gr. 12 Provincial Standards Tests Results – Semester 1 – 2016-2017
• Gr. 12 Essential Math - Results are higher than the provincial average, in both mean scores and pass rates. 
o Mean score =  GVSD 70.3 / PROV 58.3
o Pass rate =  GVSD 94.1 / PROV 69.1
• Gr. 12 Pre-Calculus - Lower than the provincial average in both mean score and pass rates.
o Mean score =  GVSD 58.7 /  PROV 68.8
o Pass rate =  GVSD 66.7 / PROV 81.4
• Gr. 12 English Language Arts – Slightly lower mean score but slightly higher pass rate.
o Mean Score =  GVSD 66.9 / PROV  68.6
o Pass rate = GVSD 93.1 / PROV  88.4
 
• Assessment data is reviewed by schools and teachers in their Professional Learning Communities with the goal to improve student achievement.
 
5. New K-8 School for Winkler
• In a recent announcement by the province of Manitoba, the communities of Winker and Niverville were referenced as being high on the government’s priority list for new schools.
• In anticipation of a favourable announcement in the near future of a new K-8 school for Winkler, GVSD has begun preliminary planning.
• Part of this planning has involved looking at the most recent new schools for GVSD (Emerado Centennial School and Prairie Dale School) to identify lessons learned and features that have worked extremely well.
