The Board of Trustees invites applications for the position of Superintendent of Schools for Garden Valley School Division. Duties will commence August 1, 2018
Garden Valley School Division is a dynamic, innovative, and visionary school division located in the agricultural heartland of industrialized south central Manitoba. It has a student population of over 4500. The City of Winkler, the industrial hub and home to the division’s administrative office, two high schools, and four of its eight early and middle years administrative units, has all the amenities of a larger city within a rural setting. It is a seventy-five minute drive south of the capital, Winnipeg, and twenty minutes north of the United States border.
The nine-member Board of Trustees has a strong commitment to providing high quality education within the context of the diversity and uniqueness inherent in the Division. The mission for the Division is:
“The mission of Garden Valley School Division is to facilitate excellent education for children to become good neighbors, workers and citizens.”
The Division’s operating budget for the 2017-2018 school year is approximately $50,000,000.
The Superintendent of Schools serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Board. As chief executive officer, the Superintendent of Schools shall be responsible for the direction and supervision of all other members of the senior administration team and shall delegate authority and responsibility as is appropriate for each board-authorized senior administrative position.
The Superintendent shall have overall accountability for the effective and efficient operation of the division office and public schools of the Division, including program delivery, support services, financial administration, school systems administration, technological innovation, management and supervision of all division employees and relations with government, stakeholders, the public and the media. S/he will provide a link between the day-to-day administration of the Division and the Board Chair, and oversee the development and accomplishment of the Board’s goals and priorities in accordance with its strategic planning process.
The Board of Trustees expects the Superintendent to be inspiring, collaborative, committed to servant leadership, and an advocate for students through the enhancement of schools as professional learning communities. The Superintendent shall demonstrate a commitment to collaborative decision-making, balanced with strength to make challenging decisions in a calm, deliberate manner.
The Superintendent shall exemplify strong moral values, high standards of ethical conduct, a commitment to the Division’s mission statement, belief statements, philosophy of education, and excellent interpersonal, communication and administrative skills.
- A Bachelor’s Degree and preferably a Master’s Degree in Education or related field
- Valid Manitoba Teacher’s Certificate or equivalent
- At least five years of teaching experience
- At least five years of administrative experience
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check
