GVSD wishes to congratulate the students from Northlands Parkway Collegiate who competed and won medals at theSkills Canada National Competition held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on May 27-30, 2015. The students proved that they are among the very best in Canada!
Devin Boger (gr. 11) won the Gold medal for Autobody Repair. Nelli Albertin (gr. 11) won a Silver medal in Aesthetics (Skin Care), and Manuel Stuermer (gr. 12) won the Silver medal for Electrical Installation. The NPC students were a part of Team Manitoba that competed against their peers in the Olympic-style Skills Canada National Competition. A total of 550 young students and apprentices from 13 provinces and territories competed in Saskatoon in 46 different trades over two days. The Manitoba team of 60 competitiors received 27 medals in total; 10 Gold, 11 Silver, 6 Bronze. Skills Canada's mission is to encourage and support a coordinated Canadian approach to promoting skilled trades and technologies to youth.
Skills Canada Manitoba is a not for profit, charitable organization that works with employers, educators, labour groups and governments to reposition skilled trades and technology careers, as a first choice career option for Manitoba youth. The Skills organization guides students toward available opportunities in skilled trades and technology through events and programs like the skills competition. As a partner in this endeavor, GVSD is committed to providing effective programs for students that support emerging careers in trades and technology. As a member of the Red River Technical Vocational Area (RRTVA), the success of the students involved in trades and technololgy education reflects the overall excellence and strength of the programs offered within the RRTVA.
