I Love to Read Month is traditionally celebrated in February in Manitoba, and GVSD schools are joining the effort to promote reading as one of the foundations for literacy development. I Love to Read month is celebrated to encourage reading, writing and sharing in the joy of literacy.
A variety of activities took place at Emerado Centennial School during February’s “I Love to Read Month.” To kick off the month, students and staff wore hats to school for “Hats Off to Reading Day.” Everyone also enjoyed “Read My Shirt Day” and “Dress Up Like Your Favourite Book Character Day,” which took place later in the month.
The students at Border Valley School decided to support the Winkler Cheerboard this Christmas, and the outcome was far above and beyond what was originally planned. The school set a goal initially to collect 400 cans.
February is I love to read month at Prairie Dale School. The theme this year is 'BOOK WARS: May The Words Be With You.' Playing with the recognizable Star Wars storyline, students and staff are engaged in a fun 'galactic' competition to see who can reach the top reading goal and win some prizes.
If you have noticed some of the floral arrangements that beautify the City of Winkler, particularly the large ones on Highway 32, you've seen some of the handiwork of the students in the high school Horticulture and Landscaping Program.
