On December 2, 2020, Minister of Education Kelvin Goertzen announced that from January 4 to January 15, 2021, students in Grades 7 to 12 will move to remote learning.
Southern Health Region in Code Red

On Friday, November 6, 2020, Manitoba’s Provincial Public Health Officer, Dr. Brent Roussin, announced that Southern Health Region will move into the critical red pandemic response level as of Monday, November 9, 2020.
Update for Schools in Southern Health

Dear Parents/Guardians, Students and Staff of Garden Valley School Division,
On November 6, 2020, Manitoba’s Provincial Public Health Officer, Dr. Brent Roussin, announced that as of Monday, November 9, 2020, the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region will move to Critical (red) on the #RestartMB Pandemic Response System in order to halt COVID-19 transmission spread in the region.
GVSD Moves to Restricted Orange

Earlier this afternoon, October 30, 2020, Manitoba’s Provincial Public Health Officer, Dr. Brent Roussin, announced that all schools in Manitoba will transition into the restricted orange level beginning Monday, November 2, 2020.

Re: Mandatory Mask Use
On Monday, September 21, 2020 Manitoba Education released a document providing further guidance on mask wearing. Following Public Health advice, the province continues to mandate the use of masks for students in grades 4 to 12, all school staff and visitors when physical distancing of two metres is not possible.
New Provincial Resources for Parents

The Manitoba government has prepared a number of important informational resources for parents/guardians as they prepare their families for a safe and informed return to the classroom. The "Restoring Safe Schools" information package is designed to help address, in an easy to access manner, the most frequently asked questions and areas of concerns.

The start of another school year is fast approaching, and we look forward to welcoming our staff and students back to school. With the unique challenges of COVID-19 we know this school year will look and feel different in many ways. As a school division, in following public health guidelines and directives from Manitoba Education, we are working to strike a balance between an abundance of caution and still provide enriching learning experiences for our students.

On Wednesday, August 19, 2020 Premier Brian Pallister announced the province is now mandating the use of masks for grades 4 to 12 students when physical distancing of two metres is not possible at school. Masks will be required for students in grades 4 to 12, teachers, school staff, bus drivers, and visitors when physical distancing of two metres is not possible.

On Monday, June 22, 2020 the province of Manitoba announced that the 2020-2021 school year will begin on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 for staff only, with students returning on Tuesday, September 8, 2020.
