Update for Schools in Southern Health

Dear Parents/Guardians, Students and Staff of Garden Valley School Division,

On November 6, 2020, Manitoba’s Provincial Public Health Officer, Dr. Brent Roussin, announced that as of Monday, November 9, 2020, the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region will move to Critical (red) on the #RestartMB Pandemic Response System in order to halt COVID-19 transmission spread in the region.

Re: Mandatory Mask Use

On Monday, September 21, 2020 Manitoba Education released a document providing further guidance on mask wearing. Following Public Health advice, the province continues to mandate the use of masks for students in grades 4 to 12, all school staff and visitors when physical distancing of two metres is not possible.

The start of another school year is fast approaching, and we look forward to welcoming our staff and students back to school. With the unique challenges of COVID-19 we know this school year will look and feel different in many ways. As a school division, in following public health guidelines and directives from Manitoba Education, we are working to strike a balance between an abundance of caution and still provide enriching learning experiences for our students.
