Att: Parents/Guardians and Staff of Garden Valley School Division Students
Late Friday afternoon, March 13, 2020, Manitoba school divisions received information from the Minister of Education which announced that Kindergarten to Grade 12 classes will be suspended in schools effective March 23, 2020 for three weeks, including the week of spring break.
This will allow time for families, educators and school divisions to plan for alternative arrangements while the number of presumptive and confirmed cases remains low. Suspending in-class learning is a response to slow the spread of COVID-19 and to prepare schools to the greatest extent possible.
For the week of March 16 - 20 classes will proceed as scheduled.
Additionally, in keeping with the Public Health directive to implement social distancing practices, GVSD will be implementing the following operational actions until further notice:
> All schools will be limiting student and community member access to school buildings outside regular school hours;
> All school assemblies, concerts, field trips, sporting events and practices are cancelled;
> All scheduled incoming guests to schools, presentations and performances are cancelled;
> All rentals for GVSD facilities by outside user groups are cancelled;
> All off-site student work placements are on hold.
> Any staff or students who are ill, or who are exhibiting symptoms of illness, are asked to stay home this week.
> Individuals with respiratory conditions or serious medical issues such as heart disease, diabetes, or lung disease should follow the advice of Public Health and consider staying home.
> Any staff or students who have travelled internationally during the last two weeks (14 days), including the United States, should follow the most recent advisory issued by Manitoba Health. For more information please go to the following website: https://news.gov.mb.ca/news/index.html?item=46957
