Updated GVSD Return to School Plan

covid 19 update 06 26 130x97September 1, 2020

Att: Parents/Guardians, Students and Staff of Garden Valley School Division

The start of another school year is fast approaching, and we look forward to welcoming our staff and students back to school. With the unique challenges of COVID-19 we know this school year will look and feel different in many ways. As a school division, in following public health guidelines and directives from Manitoba Education, we are working to strike a balance between an abundance of caution and still provide enriching learning experiences for our students.

In the coming days, each of the schools in Garden Valley will be providing parents with information specific to their school on the various measures that will be in place to keep staff and students safe. They will also provide information about the school day and the various routines and procedures they will follow for different situations. This information will be available on the school websites. Once students and staff return to the schools, there may be instances where adjustments need to be made as they try new processes and adapt to new measures for the very first time. We respectfully ask for patience and understanding as everyone adapts to this new learning environment.

On Wednesday, August 19, 2020 Premier Brian Pallister announced the province is now requiring the use of masks for grades 4 to 12 students, all teachers, school staff, and visitors when physical distancing of two metres is not possible at school. Younger students may wear masks if they prefer. Additionally, on September 1, 2020 the province announced that masks are now required on school buses for all students, the driver and any other passengers.

We know these times are challenging and that the transition back to in-class learning comes with many different thoughts and feelings. Working together, our goal is to provide a smooth transition for the return to classes. As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve in our province, we will do our best to keep you informed of any changes and updates.

Sincerely,
Todd Monster
Superintendent
