2.   2019-2020 Provincial Funding Announcement
• On January 24, 2019, the Minister of Education announced an increase by $6.6M in provincial funding for public Education for the 2019-2020 school year.
• The announcement will result in an estimated additional $120,000 or about 0.4% in funding.
• The Board has scheduled a Budget Consultation meeting on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at Northlands Parkway Collegiate in Winkler.  All are invited to come!
3.   Local Voices, Local Choices
• In January the Province of Manitoba announced an extensive review of the education system. This review will be conducted by a nine-member Commission whose mandate is to carry out a comprehensive, independent review of the K-12 education system.
• Two matters which may be under consideration in this review are the large-scale amalgamation of the current elected school boards in our province, and a possible move to appointed, rather than elected, school boards.
• Alone, either of these changes would severely undermine the ability of communities to shape local schools.
