1. GVC Principal Hire Scott Jantzen, Vice Principal of Garden Valley Collegiate, will assume the position of Principal effective September 2010. 

2. Garden Valley Collegiate Presentations – Two new programs were introduced at GVC for the 2009-2010 school year.  Teacher Mark Loeppky presented the Fresh Start program, operating out of the Bunker, designed to work with a small group of students requiring a different environment / approaches to education. Teachers Charlie Siler and Susana Hawryshko celebrated the benefits of the new Teacher Advisory program offered to Grade 9 students, and opening to Grade 10 students in 2010-2011. 

3.  GVSD Teacher Hiring – 23 positions have been advertised.  Interviews will take place during the next couple of weeks. 

4. Public Education Matters DVD – The Manitoba Association of School Superintendents has just released a DVD entitled, “Public Education Matters”, which facilitates discussion about the importance of public education. The video is available on the GVSD website at www.gvsd.ca

5.  Eco-Globe Schools – Congratulations to Emerado Centennial School and JR Walkof School which have received certificates from Manitoba Education for achieving an Eco-Globe status that creates a more sustainable future for Manitoba youth.     


1. Projects Update – Construction tenders for the gym roof replacement at Plum Coulee School and the Phase 5 renovations at GVCTEC have closed. It is expected that construction will take place over the summer and be completed in early fall. 

2.   The Geothermal Tender for Prairie Dale School has been awarded to Triple L Excavating. The actual work will take place once construction begins. 


1.  April 13 Public Meeting – Approximately 200 people attended the public meeting held at Garden Valley Collegiate.  Minister of Education Nancy Allan and Deputy Minister Gerald Farthing announced a revised construction timeline for Northlands Parkway Collegiate, due to unexpected Provincial costs.  Please visit www.gvsd.ca for further information.
