A variety of activities took place at Emerado Centennial School during February’s “I Love to Read Month.” To kick off the month, students and staff wore hats to school for “Hats Off to Reading Day.” Everyone also enjoyed “Read My Shirt Day” and “Dress Up Like Your Favourite Book Character Day,” which took place later in the month.
Throughout the month, everyone made sure they had a book with them, to be ready for DEAR Time (Drop Everything and Read). When the DEAR music was heard playing on the intercom, everyone stopped what they were doing and read their books. Everyone also kept track of their reading minutes in their calendars. The top reader in each homeroom won a prize.
The school also enjoyed trying to guess the Mystery Readers and the Mystery Books during the morning announcements. Several teachers used apps to disguise their voices, which made it very difficult to guess who the Mystery Reader was! If someone guessed correctly and their name was drawn from the box of ballots, they won the book that was being read over the intercom. I Love to Read Month really boosted the school spirit at ECS!
