The Heavy Duty Equipment Technology (Diesel) program at GVC TEC prepares students for careers in maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing heavy-duty machinery and diesel-powered equipment. With a growing demand for skilled technicians, this program offers strong employment potential and competitive wages.
Students receive hands-on training in a modern, well-equipped shop using industry-standard tools and diagnostic equipment. The program combines classroom instruction with live repair work, covering key areas such as engine rebuilding, transmission service, drivetrain systems, and basic electrical and computer diagnostics. Students also gain experience in forklift operation, welding, and operating heavy machinery.
The program is accredited by Apprenticeship Manitoba. Students who complete all eight credits with an overall average of 70% or higher may receive Level 1 in-class technical training recognition in the above trades.
Practical hours can also be earned through the High School Apprenticeship Program (HSAP), with work placements available on evenings, weekends, or school breaks.
