The Welding program at Morden Collegiate prepares students for entry-level positions in the welding industry. Students learn to cut and join various metals using industry-standard tools and techniques while developing a strong foundation in safety, blueprint reading, math, and metallurgy.
The program emphasizes hands-on learning. After studying the theory behind each welding process, students apply their skills by completing practical projects. These may include custom trailers, ornamental ironwork, gym equipment, and community-based projects. Past award-winning creations include sand rail dune buggies, customized golf carts, and a V-8 powered trike.
The Welding program is accredited by Apprenticeship Manitoba. Students who achieve an overall average of 70% or higher across all eight credits may receive recognition for Level 1 in-class technical training in the Welding trade.
Practical training hours can also be earned through the High School Apprenticeship Program (HSAP), with placements available during evenings, weekends, or school breaks.
Students interested in the Welding program are encouraged to visit the RRTVA website for more information.
