AI Guidelines
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer emerging — it is embedded in the tools we use every day, including in our classrooms. From AI copilots built into productivity platforms, to generative tools that support writing, planning, and creativity, to real-time feedback systems that adapt learning pathways, AI is actively reshaping how students engage with content and how teachers design, differentiate, and assess learning.
At the same time, we recognize that AI’s rapid growth comes with new challenges. For example, generative AI can sometimes produce incorrect or biased information and may even violate intellectual property or privacy laws if used irresponsibly. There are also concerns about students becoming overly dependent on AI, challenges around academic honesty, exposure to inappropriate or misleading content, and questions of privacy, fairness, and equal access. These realities highlight the need for clear, up‑to‑date guidelines that help schools leverage AI’s potential while ensuring it is used as safely, ethically, and responsibly.
Garden Valley School Division (GVSD) recognizes the importance of taking a proactive, balanced approach to AI. This document is designed to help our schools use AI with confidence, curiosity, and care. They apply to all GVSD students and staff, across all grade levels and roles, ensuring a consistent and ethical approach to AI use. Ultimately, they support GVSD’s mission to create learning environments where everyone is inspired to reach their full potential as learners and citizens.
